After all, La La Land didn´t win the Oscar for best
picture even if we all believed so for a couple of minutes. Probably the 89th
Academy Awards ceremony will always be remembered for the blunder that Fay
Dunaway and Warren Beatty made when they presented the award as they had been
handed the Best Actress card, which stated that Emma stone had won for her role
in La La Land. Eventually, La La Land won 4 Oscars for: Best
Actress, Best Director, Best Original Music Score and Best Cinematography but
the Oscar for Best picture was for Moonlight.
The 2017 Oscars emphasized the diversity
of American society and its history in contrast to the 2016 ceremony which
became very controversial as many actors or film-makers felt that American
industry failed to mirror such diversity. Unfortunately, this year´s ceremony
won´t be remembered for making history in that sense but for a gaffe that
shouldn´t have been made.
Anyway, my new post
doesn´t really revolve about the last Oscars; by now, most of you are aware of
all the films and actors that became winners, however, my last post and this
one have something in common: the importance of musicals. Last week I watched Beauty and the Beast, the film which is
based on the Walt Disney animated classic film. I saw the animated film a long
time ago but I always think of it as one of the best Disney films and as one of
the best musicals, that´s why, taking up the challenge of turning such a film
into a story with human beings is, in my view, a really daunting task. Therefore, when I went
to the cinema and discovered that the film really lived up to my expectlations, I felt
really elated!! Each frame, each character, each song, each setting not only
manages to capture the essence of the classic film but, sometimes, it is even
more impressive due to the CGI and the last
technology that has been incorporated to convey the magic of the Disney film.
Regardless of your age, if you´re fond of the old film, you should watch the
new Beauty and the Beast: you will
enjoy every bit of it and – while you are watching it – you will feel that the
world is a better place just because “beauty is within”. You may think that my view is biased as I´m
extremely fond of this film and it may be so, why not? However, the fact that the
audience started clapping at the end of the film – a rare thing these days –
makes me think that quite a lot of viewers reached the same conclusion as me:
the new Beauty and the Beast is a
film that you really recommend.
Official poster for
the film.
Have you watched the new Beauty and the Beast? Would you
recommend it? What´s so special about this film? Who is your favourite
