Doris Day was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1922. She died – at the age of 97 – in California three years ago. She didn´t manage to turn 100 but she led a long life. When we mark the centenary of a well-known person, we tend to look back at that person´s life and work. Marking this day involves recalling the career one of the most famous actresses of the golden age of Hollywood. Most of her films – above all musicals and romantic comedies – portray women whose social roles are very different from today´s roles but all of them underline her talent, her charisma and her classy sensuality, an aspect which wasn´t stressed in her first films.
I have chosen this photo because it reminds us of her enduring friendship with Rock Hudson. They starred in just three films (Pillow Talk, Lover Come back, Send Me No Flowers) but their chemistry was such that we can´t avoid thinking of both of them together whenever the name of one of them comes up.
