World Book and Copyright Day 2022

This is the motto of the UNESCO – the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation – for this year´s World Book and Copyright Day.

As usual, there are lots of different ways of celebrating this day and watching a film which is based on a book is one of them. Death on the Nile was released last February and it has been on at our local cinemas for a very long time so that´s my recommendation for today if you feel like watching one of the latest film adaptations that cinemagoers have enjoyed and – once again – I´d like to emphasise the use of the word “cinemagoer”.  Death on the Nile is a film that you must watch on the big screen because it has been made for it and that´s the way of ENJOYING it, regardless of whether you can watch it on your TV at home, on your tablet or on the relatively small screen of your smartphone. When I watched it at the cinema, I really indulged in the experience. After being deprived of the experience of going to the cinema for such a long time, I felt privileged to enjoy a story which was exquisitely created to be shown on the big screen and what else can you ask for when you pay for your cinema ticket?

Let´s keep going to the CINEMA and let´s keep READING because we mustn´t forget that Death on the Nile is based on the novel written by Agatha Christie in 1937.

Book cover of the novel when it was first published in 1937.

Apart from the 2022 film adaptation, there are other two films which are based on the novel. Hercule Poirot was played by Peter Ustinov in the 1978 film whereas the role was played by David Suchet in one of the episodes of the television series Agatha Christie´s Poirot in 2004.
