As everything appears to be going back to normal, we start to resume the old habits and traditions which this horrendous pandemic made us leave behind. Christmas is perhaps the period of the year when we have the highest number of traditions. Now that most social restrictions have vanished – except perhaps those inspired by our common sense – we feel happy to embrace those habits which are so typical of the festive season as we were deprived of them last year and the year before. However, there was one tradition that remained unchanged: our tradition of watching one of our favourite films or one of those films that is inextricably linked to Christmas. This year It´s a Wonderful Life has been the film that has made me feel at home again even if I was already at home. It´s a Wonderful Life is one of the classic films which lots of people relate to the festive season, especially in the United States. I watched it a long time ago so watching it again has meant rediscovering it. It´s a Wonderful Life draws a wonderful picture of humankind: it is a portrayal of generosity, kindness, love – in all its forms – greed, meanness, desperation and finally redemption. The film was directed by Frank Capra in 1946 and 76 years later, it keeps shining thanks to its ability to grab our attention from beginning to end and to move us in the way only the classics can.
