In an increasingly digital world where some of our old habits seem to have been replaced by new ones thanks to the power of technology, it´s wonderful – hopeful and reassuring – to see lots of cinemagoers going to the cinema on a midsummer night. People who have chosen to watch a film in a proper cinema, alone or accompanied by other people on the big screen rather than on a digital platform. I´ve been abroad this summer and I happened to see that in a foreign country, but back home, I went to watch one of the latest releases and I discovered that the room was packed with people. In short, people keep going to the cinema and that´s good news!!
Some of the films that have been released this summer:
Haunted Heart, a film by Fernando Trueba which has been shot in English thanks to an international cast. The film is a thriller which aspires to imitate the tension and suspense which were typical of the stories directed by Hitchcock. Does the film-maker achieve that? I´ll let you decide on your own.
It Ends with Us, a film based on the novel by Colleen Hoover. Apparently, it has the ingredients of a rom-com but deals with a serious issue which is present in our societies at all levels. Can you guess which issue that is?
If you´re fond of the Marvel stories, this summer you also have the opportunity of watching Deadpool &Wolverine.
As usual, our cinemas cater for all tastes and we take comfort from watching films we know we will enjoy beforehand but also from those which amaze us and catch us unawares.
